Catherine Allen ADAPT, BFA (Dance), BEd

Catherine is originally from Smiths Falls, Ontario. She began dancing at the age of 4 studying jazz, tap, baton twirling, ballet, and modern dance at various studios in the Ottawa area and has been teaching dance in Kingston for over 20 years. She has watched her students grow and go off into many avenues of dance including professional dance schools, musical theatre, and on international tours. In 1997, Catherine began studying dance at York University in Toronto. She is also a graduate of Queen’s University in the Artist in the Community Education program where she obtained her Bachelor of Education degree. Catherine choreographed the Kinsmen productions of The Wizard of Oz, Nunsense and You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. She has been a part of a competitive dance team staff which would travel to numerous competitions throughout Ontario and Quebec. Her choreography has received many awards for creativity and originality including “America’s Choreographer of the Year – Diamond Choreography Award”.

Currently, Catherine is a Grade 6 teacher with the Limestone District School Board. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Sean, her daughter Caitlin, who is a competitive dancer at the studio, and her son Liam, who enjoys many physical activities including soccer and football. Catherine completed the 3 year, ADAPT (Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers) Teacher Training School in 2006 and continues to stay current on dance pedagogy by attending revisions courses and successfully enters her students into the examination process with many students receiving marks of “Highly Commended Plus” and “Highly Commended”. Catherine is a fully certified ADAPT tap and jazz teacher and is excited to be part of the RDC staff this year!
