The Company at RDC is designed for the student who is more serious about exploring the art of dance. Becoming a member of the RDC Competitive Company is by audition. Auditions are held for anyone interested in June. We take into consideration not only how the dancer performs in the audition but if they are an existing student we also consider the students performance, technique, previous examination marks, class attendance and most importantly attitude and class conduct. Competitive dance offers the serious dance student the opportunity to expand their knowledge and dance training. We try to maintain a balance between being competitive but still having fun.
The audition process is also for existing Company members. This gives RDC the opportunity to ensure proper level placement as well as make proper pairing for duets, trios and small groups. A Company dancer is required to train more and, therefore, a larger commitment is necessary on behalf of not only the student but also the parents. The Company dancer is responsible for more complex and demanding choreography and is given more opportunity to perform.
There are four dance competitions to attend in April/May as well additional rehearsals including Dress Rehearsal for the competitive numbers.
Teamwork is an essential part of the competitive dance program. We believe that a supportive and dedicated team is the heart and soul of any dance studio. There are a few team building events that competitive dancers are expected to attend when possible to ensure dancers learn to work together and excel as a whole.
Members of the RDC Company are required to take Ballet Tech, Jumps and Turns and a regular Ballet class in addition to the style of dance they are competing in.
